This is a tutorial about excel formulas multiply and divide. They are just two basic math formulas, nothing special. Before you start learning formulas, there are some basic rules that you will need to know.

Formulas in excel always begin with the = sign

The formula always goes in the space where you want the answer to go

First, the multiplication formula -

Place the number 2 in cell A1 and place the number 2 in cell B1

Now in the cell D1, type an = sign. Click on cell A1 and it should be highlighted by a dotted line. Afterwards, you should type a * symbol. Then click on the cell B1. Now press enter. The number four should appear in D1. If it doesn't, the code is wrong. The correct code is:

=A1*B1

Try changing the numbers in cells A1 and B1 and the total should change with them.

You can use actual numbers in this formula instead of grid references, but then you can change the numbers easier in the cells.

The division formula -

Clear the sheet and enter 10 in A1 and 5 in B1.

Now in the cell D1, type an = sign. Click on cell A1 and it should be highlighted by a dotted line. Afterwards, you should type a / symbol. Then click on the cell B1. Now press enter. The number 5 should appear in D1. If it doesn't, the code is wrong. The correct code is:

=A1/B1

Again, changing the numbers in cells A1 and B1 will change the total.

Adding both the Division and multiplication formula in excel -

When doing this, make sure you know the order of which excel calculates

First brackets

Then exponents

Multiplication and division are equal

Addition and subtraction are equal

If only equals are presented, excel follows from left to right.

So if you entered =1*20*10/15, the answer excel gave would be 13.3 reccuring

But if you entered =1* (20*10) /1, the answer would be 200
