The Xbox 360 is an enormously balanced system. It has great games, like Halo: Reach - A huge online world in Xbox Live, bring many possibilities to fruition and a huge community of gamers who are available every day, at any time, to play any compatible game.

But, everything has it's downsides and the Xbox's are its numerous errors such as the Red Ring of Death error, various errors involving the disk drive, and all that is produced are limitless amounts of frustration when one of these things happens once - Or multiple times. The most common error code that your Xbox is likely to get (Excluding the infamous Red Ring of Death) is the Xbox's E74 error. But, never fear, you can fix the Microsoft Xbox E74 bug easier than you might think it would be.

Finding out whether you have the error:
When treating technical errors in the Xbox 360, you have to find out whether you actually have the E74 in the first place. It's quite easy to figure out. Usually, when you have the Xbox E74 Error, the Xbox displays a completely black screen and will display something that says "System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support" in lots of different languages, then with a message that says E74 at the bottom. You will also often see the lower right quadrant of the Xbox ring of lights glow red and flash.

What You Should Not Do
The first thing you might do when you are certain you have the E74 error is to call Microsoft customer service for help. But, in my opinion, you shouldn't bother at all, especially if your warranty has expired. If it has, they charge you about $150 in order to repair it - And that doesn't even include the shipping and handling. And they can hold onto your console while it is processed for as long as two months, I think this is stupid - This is due to a bug with their console, so they charge you to fix it? I don't think that the whole price is actually worth it, for a console that cost a lot in the first place.

If you have already googled around the internet, then you have probably heard of a "Quick Fix" for the Xbox E74 error and many other Xbox errors called the Towel Trick. This trick says that you must wrap your Xbox in a towel and then you can turn it on until it overheats completely. Then once you cool it down, it should be completely fixed and there will be no red lights. This does work - However, the effects are limited (They only last for an hour or so) and they may do more damage in the long term. For example, they may set your Xbox on fire.
